Book Culinary Classes

Hobby Hill Farm offers instructional classes on cheesemaking,breadmaking,canning and pasta making through several counties via Parks & Recreation,Private Farms and Specialty Stores.  These classes are a great way to get your “hands on” prior to buying startup supplies in cheese making, canning or pasta making.  Please see a listing of our upcoming classes for the county you are registering with. Each county has their own system and pricing structure.

Topics –
Artisan Bread Making –
Bread Making doesn’t have to take any longer than 10 minutes. We will show you how to make dough in your very own vessel provided at the class. A total of 2 kits will be provided.

Cinnsational Cinnamon Buns –
One of the smells that draws me to the food court when I am at the mall is the smell of fresh baked cinnamon buns. These are so rich that you say I will order it without the icing. We have the techniques and the recipes to satisfy your craving. In this class you will learn how to make cinnamon buns with and without nuts and dried fruits plus our recipe for the best cream cheese icing.

Fermenting –
Fermenting is the hottest topic around. You will learn how to make sauerkraut in a mason jar, how to monitor your kraut watching for signs of mold(good and bad) and how to tell when it is complete.

Endless Pastabilities –
Pasta making is not only fun but is easy to make. Why buy pre-packaged pasta when you can literally make pasta in under 30 minutes. Learn the proper method for storing fresh and dried pasta.

Mozzarella & Ricotta Cheesemaking –
For the past 5+ years we have been teaching Mozzarella & Ricotta cheese making techniques. Our students can’t believe how easy it is. Supplies are not expensive and you can make a fresh batch anytime of the year. Check out our Cheesemaking kits.

Soft Cheesemaking –
Crackers & “?” – Cheese of course! Soft spreadable cheese is easy to do. A little bit of dairy and a little bit of culture and you have the start to cheese. Your family and friends will love that you make fresh cheese without preservatives.

Yogurt & Kefir –
Yogurt – Mesophilic or Thermophilic? Your choice as we cover both options in class. Which has more health benefits? Yogurt or Kefir Not sure what the differences are and don’t want to commit to a longterm regime. We will be happy to introduce you to different strains of cultures to make yogurt and
cover Milk Kefir Grains.

Canning – Water Bath
Do you have a flush of veggies in the summer? Water Bath canning is one of the easiest ways to preserve veggies and fruit at the peak of the season.
There are differences to the types of canning processes based on the acidity.
If you would like to learn those differences and clim aboard the preserving
bandwagon then sign up for one of our classes. We offer classes in preserving
Pickles, Onions, Blueberries(jam, etc), Tomatoes and more.

Hobby Hill Farm charges a flat rate or per person charge for classes. We supply all the consumables and will offer a snack consisting of breads, crackers, cheese made by “You”, Iced Tea, Coffee. What better way to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

NOTES: Please bring an apron and a tupperware bowl to take home some cheese from your cheesemaking session. When attending canning classes please do not wear open toed shoes, bring an apron, any extra canning jars and a card board box to take home warm processed jars.
